Of all the possible variations that can be taken whilst adapting Macbeth into a new medium, the image is the director's most exclusive. It's interesting then to see what Kurasawa - whose perennial influence was resuscitated once again last year - chooses to highlight through his mist-laden, purgatorial images. He leaves the sing-song of the bard in the fog. Instead it's conviction, prophecy; isolation, guilt; ambiguity, death.

Alone in your mind, desire possesses your every step through muddy lands you once thought were barren. But you couldn't see the others around you. It was you against them: one man facing a thousand arrows.
